Style Without Rules: Inside Malak's Ever-Changing Closet
Share
Meet Malak—a true style shapeshifter who believes fashion should be as fluid as her mood. From her brother’s oversized jackets to statement prints and vintage treasures, Malak’s wardrobe is a blend of inspirations that break all the "rules." Let’s dive into her world of bold choices and ever-evolving style.
Who is your ultimate fashion icon?
I don’t really look up to a certain person when it comes to fashion, especially because my style is always changing and I don’t like sticking to one specific vibe. I’m always drawing inspiration from everything around me whether that be past fashion shows, movies & TV shows, cool color combos, or random Tiktoks.
How would you describe your personal style?
Super chaotic. One day I look like I’ve raided my brother’s closet, the next I’m channeling my inner vintage feminine freak.
What’s your go-to outfit for a night out?
A long maxi dress on funky colored heels and huge earrings. If it’s cold out I’d add a fun print jacket.
What's your favourite piece in your wardrobe right now?
I just bought a huge fur jacket I can’t wait to wear when it gets colder.
What’s the most treasured item in your closet?
A pair of vintage green kitten heels I thrifted.
What fashion trend are you loving right now?
Mixing prints! Prints on prints on prints.
What’s a trend you think should make a comeback?
It’s not a specific trend but I think clothes used to be much more well-crafted and well thought out. Now that fast-fashion took over, the focus has become on producing the most mainstream, easy-to-manufacture clothing. It’s so sad and takes all the fun away.
What's a trend you're happy to see go?
Logo-mania. I’m so glad we’re over super-branded clothing. It’s just a plain t-shirt marked up because there’s a designer logo on it.
What’s your favourite way to accessorize an outfit?
Huge statement earrings, bangles, a colorful handbag, and maybe a fun belt!
What’s a fashion rule you love to break?
I love mixing masculine and feminine silhouettes together, it creates such a unique overall look. A boxy blazer on a skirt, or wide leg trousers on flowy tops. Clothes have no gender.
What’s your unpopular fashion opinion?
I’m over sneakers. Oops. I love them and everything, I just can’t find myself reaching for them anymore. I would so much rather wear a cool pair of flats, mules or clogs.
Who are your favourite designers or brands?
Mango, Miista, Heavn, Leeaan Huang.
What are your favorite local brands?
Rebel Cairo, Rigash, Srvzhouse, Nush
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why?
Even though I’m such a summer person, fall fashion wins. I love layering.
What are 5 wardrobe staples?
A cool leather jacket, a pair of printed pants, a fitted long neutral top, a huge funky bangle, and a nice pair of sunglasses.
What are your fall fashion essentials?
Colored tights, a cool beanie, a long coat, and sexy pointed boots.
What’s your favourite way to style a basic white tee?
On a pair of fun capris or pants, a chunky red necklace and colored kitten heels/mules.
What’s your favourite fashion era and why?
I honestly don’t have a favourite, I love to take inspiration from every era. If anything, I’m so glad we’re living in a time where we have access to inspiration from everywhere and every time period.
If you could raid one designer’s archive, whose would it be?
I would KILL for some vintage Miu Miu shoes, OR anything vintage Jean Paul Gaultier.
How do you curate a wardrobe that’s both practical and stylish?
This is honestly something I still struggle with. I’m always drawn to pieces that stand out even if they aren’t necessarily that practical. All my cool bags don’t fit anything, all my shoes make it so hard to drive or walk around, all my jeans are too long. I would say keep the statement pieces to things like accessories or jackets, and curate a practical wardrobe of tops and pants that you could mix with anything to make a cool outfit.
What’s your favourite Studio H piece and why?
Definitely the tuscan sun blazer. I’m obsessed with the little details, they make an everyday blazer so unique.
How do you style your favourite Studio H piece?
On long dark denim shorts, a black fitted top and huge earrings.
What vibe do you feel Studio H embodies?
Such light feminine energy with a distinct twist.
How does Studio H fit into your personal style?
All the items are so unique yet so easy to style at the same time, perfect for uplifting an everyday outfit.
How would you describe Studio H in 3 words?
Vibrant, feminine, youthful.
What’s the most unique piece of clothing you own, and what’s the story behind it?
I bought this really cool striped knit top when I was thrifting in London. The texture, the sparkly fabric, the colors. Love at first sight. That’s it. That’s the story.
What's your favourite type of shoe to wear?
Mules definitely.
How do you stay confident in your fashion choices?
I learned quite a while ago that it honestly doesn’t matter what people think. There’s always people that are gonna absolutely hate what you’re wearing. I would so much rather stay true to my fashion instincts.
Do you incorporate any vintage pieces in your wardrobe, if so where do you source them from?
Vintage pieces are how I breathe life into my style: I’m a huge vintage geek. I follow soooo many thrifting accounts on Instagram I’ve lost count. Almah is one of my absolute favourite sources of vintage items in Egypt. Shop.calma is also a good one.
What’s a piece you’ve worn so much that it feels like part of you?
My vintage leopard print blazer/shirt. Prints are neutrals, they literally go with everything.
What’s one item you’ve had your eye on but haven’t added to your wardrobe yet?
yohji yamamoto adidas 2002 mules: obsessed.
What's your favourite piece of fashion advice to give?
Experiment experiment experiment, your sense of style is never gonna get built overnight. Don’t focus too much on what’s “in” and what’s “out”, if you get too fixated on what’s trending you miss out on having fun with fashion. And, like I said, anything and everything is trending right now so just experiment with what feels right, even if it's by adding a new funky accessory.
How do you keep your style unique and true to yourself?
I love mixing different influences from different styles and designers, but I always make sure I always add a personal twist. Even if it’s the most basic outfit, just adding an extra accessory or fun shoe adds my own identity to the look. And even if there’s a trend that catches my eye, I try to adapt it to my own vibe so that I still feel like myself no matter what I’m wearing. It’s all about blending inspiration with your natural style.
What’s the best part about being featured as a Studio H fashion it girl?
It’s so great to see Egypt’s ever-growing fashion and creative community. I love connecting with people with shared interests and pushing the boundaries of what fashion can represent.
Malak’s style is all about mixing, matching, and making every look her own. At Studio H, we’re all about celebrating the fearless, like Malak, who aren't afraid to experiment and embrace their unique vibe.
